BLAZING! IS OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS:

-SUBMISSIONS-

Submission window will be from: 9/2 thru 9/20

***Only submit one story per Submission Window.
Unless you submit under a different genre i.e. you first submitted in pulp crime, but were declined.

Then you have a fantasy story, or serial, etc. you feel fits the concept of Blazing!, in that case it would be fine to submit-***

-For Stand-alone's Pulp Stories:

-Word limit: between 2500 to 5000

Remember the time period. I know all of us as writers have come up against the quote, no 'period pulp pastiche' or any thing of the like, but, guess what, THAT'S NOT THE CASE HERE! I'm bringing back the good ol' style of writing that was made popular by the Pulp. Climax/Resolution. Don't know what that is? Then you don't write it, and in this case, I don't want it. Do your research before you plan on submitting! There are many, many, many, sites available on the definition of 'Pulp'. I want a strong voice, distinct. Not a copy of Chandler, Daly, Hammett, etc., but your voice, done in that time period. This is about your ability to tell a good story within the limitations of the genre and time period. This is where all styles and genres within the pulps will be. Hard-boiled, Detective, Noir, westerns, adventure/action, sports, mysteries, science fiction and even, yes even, spicy pulp.
I don't want Marlowe, Race Williams, Sam Spade, The Shadow, The Spider, Operator 5 knock-offs. I want original characters, done in that setting. Your characters!(And don't try to trick us, my editors are sharp, see, sharp! yeah, yeah, see, sharp ya dingus!)

*There are exceptions to the rule.

-For Serial Pulp Stories:

-Word limit: 2500-3000 *QUERY FIRST BEFORE SUBMITTING!!

-Each chapter must leave off on a Climax, wanting the reader to come back next month for the next part of your story. Limit for a serial is 4-6 chapters.

-I'm looking for mainly action/adventure in the style of storytelling of the Old Time Radio shows or even, if anyone has seen them, the television serial produced by Republic called, "The King of the Rocket Men". Each episode left off with a nail-biter; "Will The Rocket Man survive his most harrowing threat yet? Tune in next week! That's what I'm looking for.

-You must have the complete serial

**written before I will read it over for acceptance. The operative word for your serial must be, F-U-N! EX-CITE-MENT!

You must be able to spin a good adventure/action yarn to keep readers coming back. Serials will be published once a month for the length of the serial-

-For Modern stand-alone Pulp Stories:

-Word limit: 2500 to 5000

Modern setting, pulp characters. Think 'Pulp Fiction'. But within the limits of language.

This isn't a prudish thing, it's a(n) esthetic thing. Those who had to write during the heyday of pulps had to work with the restrictions of the time. With explicit language, sex, alternative lifestyles, etc. They had to employ the use of the one thing lost on modern fiction (in my opinion) which is the concept of innuendo.

No Serial Killers. Make sure there is an element of drama and suspense in your story to make the people want to keep reading to see how the story ends.

Your story has to be entertaining and exciting. Even if it is a modern tale, the elements that made the Pulps enjoyable has to be in your story.

If your story reads just like a modern story, lacking the drama or suspense that pulps brought, I will not consider it.

There are sites who already accept modern fiction of that type. This magazine caters to the style and drama of Pulp Fiction.

Alluding to, inference, not coming out and saying--but hinting at. If you're able to tell a story, within those restrictions, then you have a real talent. Freedom is wonderful, just not in this case.

*In some cases, the usage of language (whether for modern or era pulp) in a limited amount can be used as long as it goes towardS character.

-For Fantasy & Science Fiction Pulp Stories:

-Word limit: 2500 to 5000

-ADVENTURE is the main goal in both fantasy and Science pulp.

-I'm looking for mainly action/adventure in the style of Flash Gordon for Science fiction. Let your imaginations run free. There is no restriction on science fact. Throw facts & plausibility to the four winds! I'm not interested in Asimov level stories, or cyber punk, we're looking for stories found in Amazing Stories, Weird Tales, & Astounding.

-For Fantasy we want stories found in Argosy, stories of swashbuckling, Robert E. Howard's Conan type of tales, Kull the Conqueror, heck, if you write a good pirate story, I'll consider it. It'd have to be really good!

Just make it fun, adventurous, exciting, and enjoyable!

-For Reprint Stories:

-First they have to fit the submissions guidelines.

I do accept reprints as long as the story is owned by the writer & the original print publication was not in the current year '07, or '06 or 2005.

Meaning, if the story is still currently active in print/or electronic print (available on the internet from another ezine/magazine or website)in the current year, 2006 or 2005, then I will not consider it, unless it was published in a foreign market. If so, then I'll consider it-

***Make sure you indicate reprint in the body of your submission.

-For Articles:

Will be considered on a submission by submission basis.

-Formatting Request:

Do not skip more than one space after the ending of sentences. Skip one space. For re-formatting reasons one space would help me out greatly. Thanks.

Please send stories as MSWord or RTF attachment with your email-

-Payment:

Yes folks, this is a paying market. What I want-good ol' pulp fiction stories with action, adventure, and fun!

Short Story submissions: payment- $20 for issue 8 only-

Serials: payment $5 for each installments: 4 parts= $20; 6 parts= $25.

-Payments will be made electronically. Having a paypal account is a good thing. *Having a Paypal account is good & necessary. I've had issues with other forms of payment and find paypal is the best way to go. Signing up is easy.

**If, during the course of writing your serial you find yourself losing interest, and I like it myself, leave it off on a cliff-hanger and we'll discuss another option.-(special cases)--

-Stories should be attached to an email as a Word Document. Story format and layout are important to the telling of the story so be as accurate as possible. I am willing to help out in that area.

-Check for spelling errors, please. I'll help if you've missed anything and will email you if I have to make any alterations to your manuscript to let you know that I have to. (If you don't agree with what I've edited, I do hold the right to not publish said story (but I don't want it to come to that, so be amiable, eh?)

In the subject line have the words Blazing Submissions- with the title of your story and the category you are submitting for:

Example: Blazing Submissions- title: Boston Blackie-pulp genre- crime: stand-alone story.

For short stories, please add "The End" to indicate the story's finished.

Send only one (whole serials) submission within the submissions window. My editors (me) can be swamped and it may take time to read through them.

B!AM does not accept multiple sumbissions. Turn around time for acceptance or rejection is rather speedy, giving you, the writer, the opportunity to submit to other slicks after a decision has been made-

Blazing! Adventures will publish 4 times a year in the beginning.

-B!AM is a Webzine Digest.

*Blazing Adventures hold first electronic rights only; and after 3 months of the stories publishing date, all rights revert to the author. Stories will be removed from Blazing Adventures archive at the request of the author.
